Helpful vocabulary

Electoral districts: A geographical area where voters elect a candidate to represent them in Parliament. It is also known as a riding.

Equality: When everyone is treated fairly because they have the same rights and opportunities.

Equity: When everyone is treated fairly because help is given to those who need it.

Geographic factors: A natural or human-made part of the Earth’s surface, like mountains or roads.

Population distribution: The pattern of where people live.

Redistribution: When boundaries of electoral districts are reset to follow changes and shifts in Canada’s population.
