Here’s a guide to our online content so you can use our resources to the fullest.
Slide decks
We provide slide decks to support you as you deliver the lessons and guide your students through the activities. The slide decks include visual cues, embedded videos and tips for teachers in the notes.
At the bottom of each resource page, you can download the slide decks in PowerPoint format.
Videos for students
Did you know that many of our learning resources include short videos for students? These can be found at the bottom of the resource page.
You’ll find consolidation videos for the following resources:

These videos help students contextualize concepts, hear personal stories and understand how Elections Canada makes sure that all Canadians can exercise their right to vote.
We also have videos that introduce content to students. Our resource Which Election? has videos that explain the different levels of elections as well as the government’s responsibilities in each. In Civic Action: Then and Now, the videos give an overview of historical case studies of civic actions that led to change in Canada. For the youngest students, the videos for Choosing our Mascot invite learners to sing along with five Arctic animal candidates and listen to their speeches as they learn the basics of elections.

Our website has information on Canada’s Elections. From a step-by-step election guide to a student FAQ, our website has a rich array of accessible information for teachers and students. This information can be particularly helpful if you’re using the Election Simulation Toolkit in your classroom.
Our resources are designed to engage your students in inquiry learning, which means that they will be inspired to ask questions. Our teacher backgrounders are there for your reference and to support you if you’re new to teaching about elections and democracy.
Downloadable formats
You can find all the materials from our kits in a downloadable format on the resource pages to adapt to the learning needs of your class.
For example, you can print out extra case studies in Voting Rights through Time for a large class. You could also print multiple copies of the same case study for the whole class so that all your students examine one group’s historical experience. This approach can help you to provide vocabulary support for language learners and younger students.
The teachers’ guide for Geography of Elections includes fact sheets on six electoral districts. Under the “Getting ready” section, you’ll find a link to the fact sheets for all ridings in Canada. You can download, print or display the fact sheet for the electoral district where your school is located.
