Welcome to the civic education newsletter

We’re thrilled to share the first edition of Civic Education News, a newsletter from Elections Canada. Our goal is to keep our community of educators informed about our latest classroom-ready initiatives. Share this newsletter with your colleagues to support their teaching of elections and democracy!

New blog series: Voting Around the World

Our newest blog series can be used as a tool to spark conversations with students about democracy and elections, both in Canada and around the world. Each post breaks down key concepts in an accessible, student-friendly way.

The first two posts are now live. Which one will you explore with your class first?

  • Democracy: What democracy means, its different forms, Canada’s electoral system and why civic participation matters.
  • Voting methods: How we vote in Canada, how other countries vote, and why secure, accessible and fair voting systems matter.

New map available to order in Geography of Elections

Bring Canada’s latest election results to life in your classroom! The 2025 election results map is now available for free in the Geography of Elections kit. Display it in your class for students to explore how regions across Canada voted in 2025.

Bonus update: Electoral district fact sheets now include the most up-to-date voter turnout data. Print or access your district’s fact sheet online to see how your riding compares with others across the country.

Order your new kit.

Preparing future voters during tax season

Research shows that those who vote in the first election for which they’re eligible to vote are likely to become lifelong voters.

Tax season is the perfect time for your students aged 14 to 17 to register as future electors. They can do so easily by:

  • Checking “Yes” in the Elections Canada section on their tax form
  • Applying online to the Register of Future Electors

Saying goodbye to our blended learning tools

By the end of the 2025–2026 school year, our blended learning tools will no longer be available. You can still access all our free resources through our ready-to-order resource kits or printable online versions. If you wish to continue using the Google apps versions, we encourage you to make your own copies before June 2026.
